Things Engraved Lets Go of Retail Employees

Things Engraved, a Canadian retailer that specializes in engraved gifts, fired all of its store associates and a number of head office employees on Thursday, January 9th, with less than 24 hours’ notice, according to a recent press release.

According to letters sent to employees and obtained by CTVNews.ca, CEO Shawn Brock wrote they were being terminated immediately “as a result of financial difficulties over the last few years.”

Brock added in the statement that the company will work to, “potentially re-organize and/or invigorate the business with new capital.” He also thanked employees for their hard work and said he wished them well, adding that they would be paid severance.

It is unclear how many employees have been let go from the company’s 70-plus locations across Canada. The nearly 40-year-old company’s next steps and what will happen to the leftover items in stores also remain unclear.

This news comes a couple of months after Things Engraved stores relaunched with a new shopping experience.
