Penn Emblem Company, a family-owned manufacturer in the branding and decorating solutions market, celebrates its 70-year anniversary in 2017.
The company was incorporated in 1947 by Frank Blumenthal, who began embroidering emblems out of his Philadelphia garage to serve the uniform rental market. “He brought the first heat sealable emblems to the industry,” according to Penn Emblem Owner Randi Blumenthal-Joseph, whose father, Robert Blumenthal, purchased the business in 1970. Randi grew up in the business, watching as her father added technologies to introduce a variety of new products from appliqués to barcoded ID labels.
Now, 70 years later, the company offers a variety of products, including custom embroidered patches and screen-printed emblems; appliqués; sublimated products; transfers; thermal barcode systems; and mending materials to the textile services, uniform rental and promotional product arenas.
“Today, as Frank’s granddaughter, I represent the third generation to steer the company as president,” Randi notes. “I hope to continue the company’s tradition of innovative, high-quality decorative solutions that have been at the heart of the manufacturing operation for three generations.”
When Randi took the reins in 2010, Penn Emblem also accepted the National Women’s Business Enterprise Certification (WBENC), an award the company has accepted annually ever since. Penn Emblem’s operational and management teams include multiple women leaders, she adds.
Many different events are planned to celebrate the 70-year anniversary, Randi explains. “(The anniversary) will focus around our hard-working employees, loyal customers, and the surrounding community who have all made the company successful throughout the years,” Randi says, adding that many different events are currently being planned to appreciate those who have contributed to the success of Penn Emblem such as parties, community service events and volunteering throughout 2017.
The company plans to announce the dates of the events to the public once details are finalized.
