5Star Awards Sponsors Charity Race to Benefit Children’s Hospital

Cary, North Carolina-based awards retailer 5Star Awards sponsored a charity event on September 25 to benefit Carolina for the Kids Foundation, an organization that provides major emotional, medical and financial support for patients and families served by the University of North Carolina (UNC) Children’s Hospital.

Sponsored by Carolina Family Weekend 2016, the 5th Annual Kilometers for Kids Fun Run and 5K was held at UNC-Chapel Hill and featured a day of fun for all ages, with a 1-mile fun run and a 5K race, along with other pre- and post-race activities and refreshments, according to 5Star Awards Office Manager Stephanie Brooks.

The business was deemed the official awards sponsor after a member of the event’s committee approached 5Star Awards Co-Owner Lisa Higginbotham. “She’s all about anything that has to do with kids,” Brooks tells A&E magazine, explaining that as a sponsor, 5Star provided 30 medals and six plaques adorned in UNC colors to be awarded to the top 5K runners.

“It went really well,” Brooks says, adding that this year’s event raised over $17,000 to benefit the Carolina for Kids Foundation. “We like what they do and it was a nice event to be a part of.”
