Proper care of compressors in dropping temperatures

proper care of compressors in dropping temperatures

As the temperatures are dropping outside, we need to pay some additional attention to our compressor, especially if it happens to be stuck in an outside facing room or in a shed. Just as it is bad for a compressor to be overheated, it has problems with cold, much like your car. Compressors are lubricated by oil, which has a tendency to get stiff and viscous when it gets cold. It would be a good idea to put a heater in the compressor room to keep the oil from getting too stiff, but make sure there is air circulation so the compressor won’t overheat.

In the summertime, replace the heater with a box fan to keep it cool. The compressor is an important part of your work; treat it well, which also means to drain it on a regular basis!
