Creating donor tiles or garden markers are just two of the many applications for laser engraving black onto tile.
The process of creating a rich, black color on tile has become much easier with the advent of CerMark Tile & Glass Spray Can. Any clip art, text and even photographs can be fused on the surface of any tile using the CerMark product.
The process starts with cleaning the tile with denatured alcohol to remove any wax or grease.
Shake the CerMark spray can well and hold it 10-12 inches from the tile. Apply an even, medium-thick coat by spraying on the CerMark. The material will be dry in about 15 minutes and be ready to laser engrave.
The CerMark process works like ceramic glaze. The heat from the laser cooks the CerMark onto the surface for a detailed and durable mark. For a 50-watt laser system, set your power to 100 and speed at 55.
After engraving, wash the tile with running water to remove the unengraved material. The black engraving may have a rough texture, and this can be buffed down with a scotchbrite pad.
The result is a durable and rich-looking finished product that expands the capabilities of your laser into many decorative and industrial markets.
