Engraving black onto a red brick can be super simple or slightly more complicated, depending on the brick. Some red bricks contain iron in the clay, and these can be directly engraved on with the laser using max power and slow speed. Some red bricks will not engrave with direct laser engraving and will need CerMark Tape to create black.
• Start with clean brick and remove any loose material.
• Apply the Tape, black side facing the metal. Press firmly to make sure the tape is free of bubbles and in direct contact with the brick.
• Engrave the CerMark Tape using maximum power (100%). Calculate the speed setting by multiplying the rated power of your system by .3. Example: .3 x 45 = 13.5.
Note: a minimum of 45 watts of laser power is required to use CerMark Tape.
• After engraving, remove the tape and clean the engraved area with a damp cloth or water. The result is a rich, black color fused to the top surface of the brick.
